William Joseph (Joe) Jarnaghan, Sr., was born in Hoopa, California on August 20, 1941 and went to be with Jesus on June 4, 2016 at 74 years young. Joe was preceded in death by his grandparents who raised him William Jarnaghan and his wife Stella Brown Jarnaghan, his son Monte Jarnaghan Sr., his parents Oscar Elmer Jarnaghan Sr., and Ruby Freda Doolittle-Jarnaghan, Brothers Elmer Robert Jarnaghan and Jack Jarnaghan.

Joe was proud to represent the Hoopa Tribe as a tribal member and later as a Hoopa Council Member. Joe enjoyed raising his family and eventually his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Joe had made a special place in the life of his nephews and nieces. Joe and Marline welcomed foster children into their home trying to impact children positively.

He was known by many as the Bald Hill Meadowlark because of his beautiful voice. He sang the way he was taught by his father and grandfather. Some days if you were lucky, you could hear him bust one out. His heavy song was enough to bring a tear to your eye, “That’s the way i used to do it” he always said.

He often reflected on his time as a young man chasing cattle with his dad, brothers, Colegrove’s, Campbell’s and others from bald hill to Box Camp.

Joe was well known for his impeccable work ethic, always on time, always prepared, and made every minute count on every project that he put his hands on. Joe was a working man since the age of 15 and took pride in a job well done. He passed these traits on to many young men that shared his company. When disaster struck the water system, he was always the first one to be called, day or night.

In addition to his work ethic, he was the number one fan of any sport that his children were involved in. Sitting in the gym to watch Monte spar and finish his work out, waiting for softball and baseball practice to end, traveling through out Northern California to be in attendance for every match and game.  Even spending extra time at home to fine tune batting practice. With all the dedication to being the number one fan… He was never late for work.

He was an avid sports fan, Giants, Warriors, and Forty Niners. When they were winning, life was good, when they lost, once the TV grew wings. But like many things in his life he was dedicated and faithful to his teams.

Joe was proud to support and provide a positive event at his home for his community for 11 years to hear the message of Jesus Christ at his Open Air Revival. Joe had a passion to serve God and tried to positively impact his community and friends, but never pushed religion on people.  Joe epitomized Jesus Christ by being a help and a servant without complaining.

He is survived by the Love of his life Marline Jarnaghan and their children, Joanna and Rocky Colegrove, Darin and Hiedi Jarnaghan, William and Kelly Jarnaghan, and daughter-in-law Laura Jarnaghan.
