The Eureka Police Department is investigating a reported armed robbery that occurred near the corner of California and Washington Streets around 3:15 p.m.
According to scanner traffic, a man was heard shouting “don’t shoot,” before a single gunshot was fired.
LoCO’s Andrew Goff spoke with EPD Sgt. Shawn Sopoaga on scene. Sopoaga told the Outpost that the suspect entered a fenced in courtyard area and demanded money and weed from a subject.
The subject reportedly threw money at the suspect. A dog subsequently approached the suspect, who then fired a shot, hitting the dog.
According to a reporting person, an armed man was seen fleeing the area toward the alley between California and Pine Streets.
The suspect is reported to be a white man in his mid 20s, wearing jeans and a sweatshirt.
The dog was taken to a local vet. We will update when we know more. (UPDATE: The dog has died.)
