From the U.S. Coast Guard, District 11, Sector Humboldt Bay:

The Coast Guard urges boaters and beachgoers to exercise caution in and around the waters along the Northern California coast due to forecasted weather conditions extending into late Saturday.

A second potent storm is expected to affect the local waters with high winds and large steep waves beginning Saturday and lasting into Saturday night. Large westerly swells are forecasted to peak Saturday night and begin subsiding Sunday. Waves between 15 and 25 feet, and winds gusting to 45 mph are expected. The most severe weather typically occurs near Cape Mendocino and the Oregon border.

The Coast Guard reminds people to remain vigilant over the weekend and avoid going near low-lying beaches and other coastal areas including jetties and rocky areas during heavy weather. Large waves can quickly and unexpectedly sweep a person into cold and turbulent waters. Large surf coinciding with a high tide increases the chance of coastal flooding. Mariners are urged to respect hazardous bar conditions. Coast Guard Sector Humboldt Bay stands ready to respond to distress but cautions that time to get on scene can increase during the most challenging of conditions.
