Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office press release:

On Friday, July 14, 2017 at about 2201 hours, while performing a routine cell check, a correctional deputy discovered a male inmate in his cell with a blanket tied around his neck in an apparent suicide attempt.

Additional deputies and medical staff quickly responded to the scene and the subject was lowered to his bunk once the blanket was removed.  The subject was in and out of consciousness as life-saving efforts were administered by staff until paramedics arrived on scene and took over care.

The subject was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital via ambulance and treated.  The subject was stabilized and later discharged from the hospital and returned to the correctional facility.

The subject remains under close observation for safety concerns at this time.  Without the quick response and successful life-saving measures initiated by correctional facility staff, this incident could have had a dire outcome.

Anyone with questions for the Sheriff’s Office regarding this incident is encouraged to call the Humboldt County Correctional Facility at (707) 441-5159.
