The wildfire burning alongside Highway 101 in Mendocino County is now 90 percent contained after firefighter’s four-day battle with the blaze.
Calfire reports that as of 9 a.m. today, the “Grade Fire” has burned 900 acres just north of Redwood Valley.
The fire started late Sunday afternoon, when a truck pulling a mobile home caught fire alongside the highway. Firefighters quickly extinguished the car fire, but not before it spread to the nearby hills covered in dry grass.
Overall, 443 firefighters, 40 fire engines, 16 dozers, six water tenders, and one helicopter have been used to fight the fire.
Calfire reports that crews will remain on scene to patrol, extinguish the fire’s interior hot spots, and strengthen control lines.
