Having trouble getting your art seen in public? Maybe paint a utility box! This City of Eureka press release tells you how:
Eureka Box Art Program is a new initiative that promotes place making artwork on utility boxes. The City of Eureka invites artists to apply to install murals on utility boxes. The goal of Eureka Box Art! is to use utility boxes as “canvases” for original pieces of art as well as to contribute to the vitality and attractiveness of the city, while deterring graffiti.
This program is open to individual artists, a team of artists or community groups with a designated lead artist. Selected artists shall be compensated for the application of their artwork and designs. For more information, to submit your design today or to sponsor a box near you please email mandersen@ci.eureka.ca.gov or call (707) 441-4160.
“Eureka Box Art! engages local artists to create mini murals that give a sense of place and a delightful surprise to citizens and visitors alike,” says Alanna Powell, Economic Development Project Manager with the City of Eureka. “This curated collection seeks to bring Eureka’s streetscapes to life with an outstanding showcase of public art on otherwise invisible canvas. Eureka Box Art! is one of several projects outlined in the Eureka Strategic Arts Plan that are coming to life this summer.”
