- Four Eureka TV Stations Were Just Sold to a Big Conservative Media Conglomerate; Deal Follows Easing of FCC Rules Yesterday
Via tvnewscheck.com comes word that Sinclair Broadcast Group, the nationwide conservative behemoth, has today received final approval from the Federal Communications Commission to purchase seven local television stations owned by Bonten Media — including our own KAEF-TV, home of “North Coast News.”
Expect some changes to programming! As we detailed in our original post on the deal, Sinclair has a heavy hand when it comes to local programming, sending out “must-run” commentary and features to local affiliates from its corporate HQ. These features include things like the daily “Terrorism Alert Desk!” feature and video essays from former Trump staffer Boris Epshteyn, among others.
Hey, check this out — John Oliver just did a deep dive on this very thing in his HBO program last night!
