Trisha Cisneros, an administrative assistant at the Klamath-Trinity Joint Unified School District, drops a line to let the Outpost and its readers know that it has pushed back the first day of classes by a week, due to drastically smoky conditions and the ongoing battle against the Mill Creek 1 Fire.
Classes had originally been scheduled to start this Monday. They’ve now been pushed back to the day after Labor Day — Tuesday, Sept. 4.
Cisneros said she got the word from the district’s superintendent earlier this afternoon, and that they plan to make more information available soon. But she wanted parents to be aware of the change as soon as possible.
There will be a community meeting on the Mill Creek One Fire this evening at 6 p.m. a the Hoopa Neighborhood Facility (11900 Highway 36). The Hoopa “clean air facilities” we wrote about yesterday are still open. The Yurok Tribe has also opened a couple of clean air spots in Weitchpec:
- Weitchpec Tribal Office, 23001 Hwy 96 — 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Morek Won — 390 McKinnon Hill Rd. — Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
