Watch yourself, metal owl. Rio Dell will soon release some new, ferocious forged fauna onto its main drag.
This Friday the city will install a steel cougar on Wildwood Avenue, the second of four planned public art installations created by local sculptor Dan McCauley. (Learn more about the artist via Sierra Jenkins’ December 2017 video report.)
Full cougar details in the Rio Dell Chamber of Commerce press release below:
The second in a series of four sculptures by Eureka artist Dan McCauley is scheduled to be installed in Rio Dell Friday, Jan. 19 at noon. The sculpture, of a cougar, will be placed on the median of Wildwood Avenue just north of the intersection with Columbus. Last year the first sculpture, of an owl, was placed farther south on Wildwood, and two additional pieces will be put on display in coming months, farther north.
The project, called Sculptures on the Avenue, is a project of the city, chamber of commerce and the Eagle Prairie Arts District, to highlight the rich arts community and to provide points of interest for visitors to the business area.
