Lois Lorraine Carmesin passed away peacefully in her sleep Jan. 9, 2018.
Lois was born on March 25, 1919 to Sydney and Jan Springman in Torrance, California. When Lois was younger she was a very good softball player, gaining her a spot as shortstop at a junior college and then with a pro team close to her childhood home.
She met the love of her life, John J. Carmesin, in the Philippines, while they were both serving in the army. They married on June 22, 1946 and in 1952 they moved to McKinleyville and raised three generations of Carmesins with great cooking and lots of love on what is now Carmesin Lane.
Lois worked at McKinleyville High School for over two decades as the attendance clerk. In 1984, Lois and John retired and traveled to many places such as Europe, Australia, Tahiti and Mexico. In her 36,085 days Lois had many blessings, but her proudest were her three children — Robert Carmesin (wife Jacque), Rita McAtee (husband Dale) and Johnny Carmesin (wife Vickie). Six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
If you were to ask all the family and friends they, would all agree that Lois was the life of the party — full of energy, competitive card games and a couple of dance moves. The last six weeks of her life were the longest she and John had been apart since they were married, and her dedication to family togetherness kept her around to make sure family was going to make it through his passing and now they are together again.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later time.
