A privately-hired dozer operator has died while battling the Carr fire, Calfire Unified Incident Commander Chief Brett Gouvea said moments ago during a press conference.
“The fire community is extremely heartbroken for this loss,” Gouvea said. ” As we mourn the loss, we also battle a fire that is moving extremely quickly and erratically into Western Redding.”
Gouvea also confirmed that additional firefighters and civilians have been injured by the fire.
“This fire is making a significant push into the Northwestern portion of Redding,” Gouvea said. “We ask everyone to heed evacuation orders and leave promptly. This fire is extremely dangerous and moving with no regard for what’s in it’s path.”
The name of the dozer operator will be withheld until kext of kin have been notified.
