From the City of Rio Dell:
On October 13, 2018, at about 10:30 PM, a Rio Dell Police Officer was dispatched to a report of a stabbing that had just occurred in the 300 block of First Avenue.
One 20‐year‐old man was detained, but the other man of the same age fled on foot. That man was reported to be suffering from a serious laceration to his arm.
Additional officers, including from the Fortuna and Ferndale Police Departments, were called in to assist in searching for the injured suspect/victim. As the officers gathered information on the injured man, it became apparent that he was not the victim of an assault, but had cut his arm on a broken window of a business. He was eventually located at about 12:30 a.m. with the assistance of the Rio Dell Fire Department, who also participated in the search.
He was transported by ambulance to the hospital where he was treated for a deep laceration on the inside of his elbow that had caused major blood loss.
The uninjured man was booked into the jail on charges of public intoxication and vandalism. Similar charges are pending for the other man once he is released from the hospital.
