UPDATE, 5:05 p.m.: Fire boat en route:

The fire boat is attacking!

###

It’s a cold and foggy day in Eureka, but we’re not out of fire season yet.

A few minutes ago, some sort of brush fire broke out in one of the places you’d least expect to find it — on the nominally unpopulated Daby Island, east of Woodley Island in the middle of Humboldt Bay.

Firefighters from Humboldt Bay Fire are currently attempting to respond to the scene by boat.

We’ll update when we know more.
