The rocket as seen from McKinleyville. | Video sent in by Outpost reader Kristy Gabel.
While foggy skies often make Humboldt’s coast less-than-ideal for stargazing, tonight’s conditions were perfect for a one-of-a-kind rocket show.
SpaceX, the private aerospace company owned by celebrity billionaire Elon Musk, launched a satellite into space at 7:21 p.m., before successfully landing the rocket back at Vandenberg Air Force Base in Santa Barbara County, California.
According to a Tweet by SpaceX, it was the first West Coast landing of an orbital-class rocket booster.
The launch was witnessed by people from all over the West Coast, including Outpost reader Kristy Gabel, who sent us footage of the launch as seen from McKinleyville.
Watch Gabel’s video above, and send your pals at the Outpost any other photos or videos of the rocket taken from Humboldt County and we’ll add them to this post.
