The Humboldt Roller Derby is making a name for itself well beyond Humboldt County.

This past weekend, the local club’s charter team, the Redwood Rollers, travelled to Tucson, Arizona, and swept all three matches at the Dust Devil Invitational.

The hard-hitting Humboldt women defeated Colorado’s FoCo Roller Derby by a score of 228-167 in their opener, followed by a 179-130 win over SoCal Roller Derby.

The Rollers capped an impressive weekend with a 190-156 victory over Albuquerque’s Duke City Roller Derby.

The three wins at the sanctioned round robin tournament could give the local club a boost in the national rankings.

The Rollers will travel for a second tournament in Truckee later in the season.

And it’s been a successful season so far for the local club, including a big win at the Redwood Acres recently against the Oakland Outlaws, a team that has consistently beaten the Humboldt club over the years.

The Rollers got a measure of revenge with a dominating 222-63 win.

Humboldt Roller Derby will be back in action at the next home event on April 20, the final matches before the summer break.
