The McKinleyville 9 and 10-year-old all-stars continued their remarkable season with a 5-2 win over Turlock to open the state tournament in Rocklin on Saturday morning.
Joe Tanno got the win on the mound, striking out 10 in five scoreless innings.
In what was a tight game throughout, McKinleyville took a one-run lead in the top of the third, before pulling away with four more runs in the sixth to lead 5-0.
The Turlock all-stars scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to narrow the gap, but it was all they could muster and Mack held on for the win.
At the plate for Mack, Tate Saso and Bode Reininger led the way with two hits each, as McKinleyville out-hit Turlock 7-3.
Tanno also had a hit, while Saso and Jake Brunner each drove in two runs.
