Keep your eyes on the ocean, folks! The highest tides of the year — the King Tides — are upon us. A reader sent the Outpost the above video of Moonstone Beach today at 10:35 a.m., showing the ocean completely covering the beach and reaching the parking lot. 

The King Tide event peaks this afternoon, but will continue through Sunday. You can help the City of Arcata document this event by submitting any photos you capture of the tides this weekend. You can find more information on the King Tides and how to submit your photos here.

But remember that high tides, though interesting and beautiful, can also be dangerous. The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory through Saturday evening, reminding you to stay off the rocks and jetties.
