Check out the bottom of this official poster for the new SpongeBob movie.
Pardon LoCO for not being up to date on the latest SpongeBob SquarePants news, but it turns out the North Coast got a pretty cool shoutout a few weeks back in a poster for the series’ upcoming film “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run.”
The poster, which was shared by the official SpongeBob Twitter account on Nov. 15, features a missing pet flyer for SongeBob’s beloved pet snail, Gary. At the bottom of the flyer there are pull tabs with the phone number “(707) 663-GARY,” a shoutout to the 707 — Woot-Woot! — and an obvious reference to show creator Stephen Hillenburg’s experience as a biology student at Humboldt State University.
LoCO called the number from the poster (707) 663-4279 and learned that it connects you to the voicemail for one SpongeBob Squarepants. Which, in LoCO‘s humble opinion, makes SpongeBob’s hometown of Bikini Bottom an official unincorporated part of Humboldt County.
The voicemail for the Find Gary Hotline.
The movie hits theaters this May and will be the franchise’s third feature film. As is tradition, the movie also features some notable Hollywood stars, including Keanu Reeves and Awkwafina.
Hillenburg passed away in November of 2018 from ALS. Shortly before his death, he gifted HSU $135,000 to provide grants for future marine biology students.
