Fortuna Chamber of Commerce press release:

This could be your art

The Fortuna Chamber Art & Culture Committee today announced an open call for artists to design Artist Poles to be displayed in and around Fortuna. The Committee is looking for submissions that best represent Fortuna – nature, culture, events, wildlife, etc. Designs will be painted on a 6-foot vinyl 5-inch square post.

Artists may respond to the open call by downloading the Artist Pole Project SubmissionGuidelines & Application. The Public Artist Pole Project is open to individual artists, a team of artists, or community group with a designated lead artist. Qualifying applicants must reside in Humboldt County.

Selected artists will receive compensation for a completed Artist Pole. The deadline to submit an application to the Fortuna Chamber is February 17, 2020. Additional submission rounds may be announced at a later date until the project is completed.

Project Background

The Artist Pole Project is part of the ongoing Public Art Installation Project between the Fortuna Chamber of Commerce and the City of Fortuna. The Committee’s first project, a metal dragonfly sculpture, created by Mad Metals, was installed at the Fortuna Chamber in April 2019. The second project, a decorative art pole, was placed at the Fortuna Monday Club in September 2019. The collaborative project between the Fortuna Chamber and the City of Fortuna will run for a minimum of three years (2019-2022) and will feature new artists approximately every six months.
