The Eureka Police Department just released a short public service announcement about the election on YouTube.
In it, Police Chief Steve Watson, Sergeants Ed Wilson and Cory Crnich, Officer Cameron Hooks and Communications Dispatcher Catharine Rees let the community know that their department will not tolerate election-related violence, harassment or intimidation.
What prompted this? Nothing in particular, it seems. Just everything.
“This has been a very turbulent and difficult year for our country,” says Chief Watson. “Political and social tensions have been on the rise, and this election cycle is among the most divisive we’ve seen in some time.”
But Watson and his coworkers seem to agree that Eureka is above that, and they’re modeling the behavior they expect to see. Keep cool and vote.
