Arcata’s Minor Theatre, which has remained shuttered during the coronavirus pandemic, is at serious risk of folding, according to a GoFundMe page organized by the business yesterday.
“Though these times have been uncertain at best, our dedication to preserving the Minor remains steadfast,” the Minor stated on social media. “While some establishments have rushed to reopen we have been cautious for the sake of our community, we simply cannot hold out forever.”
More than 100 generous community members have already donated to the 105-year-old movie house’s fund, which has raised more than half of its $20,000 goal in less than 24 hours.
“Without this fundraising effort, Arcata’s landmark cinema is very much at risk,” the GoFundMe page states.
The theater is currently offering discounted screen rentals for private groups at $100 to $200 a pop. Yesterday, the business announced its plans to reopen to the public for limited weekend screenings by Halloween season, promising “exciting upgrades” and “increased public health measures.”
The Outpost reached out to Minor Theatre co-owner Josh Neff for comment, but has not immediately heard back.
