The National Weather Service office in Eureka is advising coastal residents to keep an eye on the tides this weekend, as higher-than-average tides could bring flooding to low-lying areas around Humboldt Bay. Current predictions suggest tides could surpass nine feet between Saturday and Monday.
“Water levels are running higher than tide predictions which could result in more frequent minor to moderate flooding around Humboldt Bay this winter,” the NWS wrote in a Facebook post. “Plan around potential tide levels and stay tuned to the forecast for Coastal Flood Advisories & Warnings.”

As seen in the graphic above, a cold front moving into the area could also bring “light to locally moderate rain showers” to the region this weekend, according to the NWS. Del Norte County is expected to bear the brunt of the storm, but higher elevations here in Humboldt could see about a quarter inch of rain.
Stay dry out there, folks!
