The City of Eureka’s new operations complex, which will be located at 3993 Broadway, is starting to take shape at the south end of the city.

The $21 million facility, located on Broadway near Ocean View Cemetery, is being built to replace Eureka’s existing corp yard, which sits in the tsunami zone. It will feature a streamlined single-building design (housed in a steel shell measuring 24,000 square feet) and include office and crew support spaces, a fleet maintenance shop, parking/storage for police and fire vehicles, bulk material bins, a vehicle washing station and more.

Here are a couple of conceptual images, courtesy of the City of Eureka:

Work on the new corp yard began in 2023. Eureka Engineering Director Jesse Willor explained via email that it has progressed in three phases, starting with site development (grading, utility connections, some hardscape, etc.) and progressing to pre-engineering of the metal building (roofing, skylights, insulation, windows and doors, etc.).

The project has now advanced to Phase 3, which includes site work such as footings, under-slab utilities and construction of a foundation and concrete slab. The contract for this phase was awarded to Adams Commercial General Contracting, Inc.

“Phase 3 also includes the interior build-out with plumbing, electrical, HVAC, fire sprinklers, casework, flooring, as well as exterior components such as concrete, utility work, masonry, and asphalt,” Willor said.

If all goes as planned, the city’s new corp yard will be completed by next November.
