Rex Bohn, Humboldt County’s oft-controversial First District supervisor, revealed in a Facebook post this afternoon that he is being investigated for workplace incidents (plural) that may have violated the county’s Harassment and Discrimination Policy.
Bohn posted a photo of an email sent to him yesterday afternoon by Humboldt County Chief Administrative Officer Elishia Hayes. In the email, which was cc’d to Human Resources Director Zachary O’Hanen, Hayes warns Bohn that she expects him “to exercise heightened care and professionalism” with county staff while the investigation is conducted.
Bohn addressed the situation in his Facebook post:
Just to be transparent and to the ones who would leak this to their favorite blog here you go. I honestly have no idea what I did my 72 year old trucker voice I would think but who knows only thing after 15 years of commitment to Humboldt and being in Humboldt 8 decades stillit and appreciate the people I get to serve. This me sharing with you, you keyboard warriors who will now attack me and know me so well. Do not expect a response, your input is appreciated. Thanks Rex
Bohn has a history of offending people and having his judgement questioned. (See here, here and here for examples.) Earlier this year, an internal county investigation sustained an allegation that he’d been hostile and abusive toward staff.
We reached out to Bohn to see if he has any additional comment but have yet to hear back. [UPDATE: He said via tex that his Facebook post “said it all.”]
Here’s the text of Hayes’s email to Bohn:
Supervisor Bohn,
I’ve become aware of workplace incidents you were involved in that may have violated the county’s Harassment and Discrimination Policy. State law and the policy require the county to investigate reports of this nature. I have included Zach on this email because the policy requires me to inform him of these allegations, and he is then required to investigate the report.
The county also has an obligation to take steps to ensure additional violations of the harassment policy do not occur while the investigation is pending. Accordingly, I expect you to exercise heightened care and professionalism in all interactions with staff.
Please understand that, should further concerns arise, the next step to ensure staff are afforded a safe and comfortable work environment may include restricting your access to non-public office spaces while the investigation remains pending.
Thank you,
Elishia
