a. Consider the City’s Local Coastal Program and Provide Direction as Necessary

The city is updating its Local Coastal Program, which includes policies and zoning laws for coastal development. The Planning Commission will review the updated drafts and provide any necessary direction or recommendations. The Program has not been updated since 1989 and is out of date with current policies. The Commission and public have already provided input on the drafts, and this meeting is for a final review before submission to the Coastal Commission for certification. The goal is to have the update approved by mid-summer 2025. All draft versions and comments will be posted on the city’s website for public access.

… or, as Schoolhouse Rock!

(Schoolhouse Rock tune)

Verse 1:
Hey there, Planning Commission, it’s time to take a look
At the City’s Local Coastal Program from the history book
We’ve updated the Element and Zoning Ordinance too
Now it’s up to you to provide some direction, what will you do?

Chorus:
Consider the City’s Local Coastal Program today
And provide any necessary direction on the way
It’s time to review and make sure everything’s in line
So our coastal resources continue to shine

Verse 2:
State law says we need a Program to implement the Coastal Act
To protect our coastline and ensure development is intact
The Element and Ordinance have been updated for today
Now it’s your turn to review and have your say

(Chorus)

Bridge:
The Commission and public have had their input too
Now it’s your chance to see if it all rings true
Focus on planning and zoning, how it all connects
And how it relates to other planning projects

(Chorus)

Outro:
So listen up, Commission, it’s time to take a stand
On the City’s Local Coastal Program, it’s in your hands
Review the drafts, provide direction, make sure it’s all in place
So our coastal resources continue to thrive and embrace!
