… or, as a conversation between Beavis and Butt-head!

Beavis: Uh, hey Butt-head, check it out. There’s like a meeting happening in Humboldt County or something.

Butt-head: Cool, what’s it about?

Beavis: It’s like some parcel map subdivision thing. They’re gonna split a big piece of land into three smaller pieces.

Butt-head: Heh heh, three is better than one, I guess.

Beavis: Yeah, and they need a special permit because one of the parcels is gonna be smaller than the minimum size.

Butt-head: Yeah, like, who cares about size, man? It’s all about how you use it.

Beavis: Heh heh, yeah. And they gotta widen the road and stuff before they can build any houses.

Butt-head: Widen the road? That sounds boring.

Beavis: Yeah, but they also gotta make sure they don’t mess up the drainage and stuff. And like, there might be ancient artifacts underground.

Butt-head: Heh heh, like, ancient artifacts are cool. They should make a movie about that.

Beavis: Yeah, like, Indiana Jones but in Humboldt County.

Butt-head: Yeah, and he can like, fight off developers and stuff. That would be cool.

Beavis: Heh heh, yeah. Hey, maybe we should go to this meeting and see if they need any help.

Butt-head: Yeah, we could be like, land development experts or something. That would be cool.

Beavis: Heh heh, yeah. Let’s go, Butt-head. We could be heroes for Humboldt County.

Butt-head: Beavis, you said “butt.”

Beavis: Heh heh, I did say “butt.” Let’s go!

2. High Art, LLC Conditional Use Permit Assessor’s Parcel Number: 522-022-015-000 Record Number

The Planning Commission in Humboldt County is recommending the denial of a permit for an outdoor cannabis cultivation operation due to violations of county and state regulations. The operation has been found to be detrimental to public health, safety, and welfare, and has caused adverse impacts to the environment. The applicant has been working to address the issues, but the recommendation is still for denial. The property is zoned for timberland production, and denying the permit means there can be no additional cannabis applications on the property. The decision will be made by the Planning Commission after reviewing all evidence and recommendations.

Title: “Lost Harvest”

Verse 1:
In the County of Humboldt, on Old Three Creeks Road
The sun shines down on a cultivation abode
High Art, LLC with big dreams in mind
But in the end, they left their harvest behind

Chorus:
Lost in the fields of green
Where the cannabis once did gleam
But now it’s just a memory
Of what could have been

Verse 2:
The Planning Commission, they had their say
Denying the permit, sending them away
For violations of the law, they could not ignore
The public health and safety they must restore

Chorus:
Lost in the fields of green
Where the cannabis once did gleam
But now it’s just a memory
Of what could have been

Bridge:
The Hoopa Tribe, they raised their voice
Concerned about the water, they had no choice
Sedimentation in Supply Creek, a growing threat
To the Coho salmon they must protect

Chorus:
Lost in the fields of green
Where the cannabis once did gleam
But now it’s just a memory
Of what could have been

Outro:
High Art, LLC, they tried to make it right
Cleaning up the mess, in the morning light
But the denial of their permit, it was clear
Their dreams of cultivation, now disappear.

… or, as a World War I infantryman's letter home to his sweetheart!

My Dearest Jane,

I write to you from the trenches, amidst the chaos of war. The sound of German artillery is deafening, but my thoughts are with you, my sweetheart. I long for the day when I can hold you in my arms again, far away from this dreadful place.

In the midst of all this turmoil, I find solace in thoughts of you. Your love gives me strength to carry on, to face whatever may come my way. I pray for our safe reunion, when this dreadful war is finally over.

Until then, know that you are always in my heart, my love for you will never waver. Stay safe and strong, my dear Jane.

Forever yours,
Charles
