In a clear statement about Cal Poly Humboldt’s student housing situation, someone vandalized one of the university signs — located at the intersection of LK Wood Blvd and Sunset Ave — crossing out the word “Humboldt” and writing “Homeless” in its place with red spray paint.

The vandalism took place sometime on Wednesday night, following a large protest held on campus in response to the university’s recent announcement  that returning students will be ineligible for on-campus housing in the Fall 2023 semester.

When the Outpost drove past the sign this morning, a CPH maintenance employee was already in the process of cleaning up the graffiti. This was the only graffiti that we saw, but we’re not sure if it was the only sign that was spray painted in the night.

Emergency crews are clearing debris from a section of Fifth Street between D and E streets after a rush hour fender bender involving a pickup and a semi truck. Consider alternate morning commute routes if you can.
