LoCO’s daily Instagram battle ran from March 2015 to June 2016. Instagram no longer serves the photos, so what’s left is who posted, when, the votes and the captions.
Voting is closed.
Think Humboldt County is beautiful? Got Instagram on your intelligent phone? Use #HumboldtCounty to place an image here and (temporarily) on LoCO’s homepage. Or just vote on your neighbors’ fine pics below. More details here.

5:57 a.m.: Commonly called “carrion flower,” Stapelia lepida itself is unassuming and could easily be overlooked in its natural habitat. Preferring to live low to the ground and most often under the shade of another taller plant, S. lepida bides its time for much of the year. Only upon flowering does the deceitful nature of this small succulent become clear. The flower is visually appealing, and many grow S. lepida simply the flower itself. The secret, however, is the smell. The scent is strikingly similar to that of rotting flesh, as S. lepida attracts flies; the pollinator is deceived into thinking it has found a suitable place to lay its eggs and instead, has wasted valuable energy and deposited eggs to their doom💥 #plantknowledge #plantnerd #plantid #botany#botanizing #carnivorous #carnivorousplant #flypollinated #pollination #carrion#carrionflower #fivepoints #flower #stapelia #stapelialepida #bloom #nature #arcata #themoreyouknow #attractsflies #rottingflesh #smell #scent #alluring #potted #carnivoroustagram #botanical #littlethings #humboldtcounty
