8:09 a.m.: These two lovelies are the flowers of Senecio rowleyanus, commonly known as string-of-pearls or string-of-beads. It is a creeping, perennial, succulent vine belonging to the family Asteraceae; the same family you'd find sunflowers and daisies in. The odd ball-shape of the leaves is an adaption to arid environments, allowing for water storage and the least amount of evaporation. Slime molds normally live on or close to the soil surface where they feed on decaying organic matter. They move about in a manner more closely akin to animal than plant life, creeping along by forming finger-like projections.
