8:09 p.m.: Passed this guy on the side of the road. I remember seeing him a few days back on the road from the coast. In the middle of nowhere. He seemed a bit gruff and not to be bothered then and now when I passed. But after almost 2 miles down the road THIS TIME I stopped and turned around. His name is Jerald. He hadn't eaten in almost a week. He's says he just trying to make it up to Eureka. Friendly, super coherent and nice as can be. I gave him what I had.. A jar of home canned pears,a granola bar and $6. He was so stoked and grateful. I didn't ask home why he was going north. Or why he had all his things in a shopping cart. It means nothing in the moment. All I know is I did what I could to help him and he took it. Human nature at it's basics. So if you see "Jerald" on the side of the road. Maybe you can take a moment to help out a fellow human. Cause that's really all we can do.
