Mudras: The Great Seals
Through Asana practice, you increase your voltage of Prana life force. Think of this like going to work and earning money. You work hard to earn your money, but if you do not safeguard it, it is quickly spent or stolen- so, you put it in a bank account to protect it. Like that, the prana gained from asana practice will dwindle and be taken by others unless it is safely sealed within the individual energy field (Pranamaya Kosha). Mudra is the practice of sealing and safeguarding your prana so that it will not so easily dissipate. Once sealed, this energy can be better directed towards ever-deepening self-knowledge and internal exploration. mudra is the preliminary step towards the proper principles of pranayama, and thus the gateway to the higher limbs of Yoga.
This workshop will be an overview of the mudras passed on to Sri BNS Iyengar of Mysore by Sri T. Krishnamacharya.
