Miracle-Gro wants to make your weeds grow. Yep, famous for their ads for gargantuan vegi’s, Miracle-Gro has decided to bring their version of gardening to cannabis farmers. In Humboldt, of course, we know that there is money, big money in marketing to marijuana growers. Now, this big corporation, Scotts, is the first that I know of to openly court the cannabis farmer and their pocketbook.
“I want to target the pot market,” Jim Hagedorn, Miracle-Gro’s Chief Executive told The Wall Street Journal. “There’s no good reason we haven’t.” The once robust company reported a decline in sales this spring and appears to be reaching out to new markets in an attempt to curb the slide.
Now that corporate America is targeting marijuana farmers, it will be interesting to see how the free spirited growers will respond. Actually, though, the grower may not know they are buying Scotts products as the company plans to purchase already existing companies that market to the growers rather than create its own brand.
