We gotta say, some of the best imagery we’ve seen of the California wildfires has been provided by the firefighters themselves. For example…
Monday, a firefighter and his fellow Six Rivers National Forest firefighters — local boys from Ferndale and Crescent City, we are told — were working out on the perimeter of the Rocky Fire near Lakeport in a Type 3 Wildland Engine when, uh oh, they saw a DC-10 appear over the ridge. They knew what was coming next.
“Uh, we’re gonna get painted guys,” one of the firefighters in the video says. “Roll your window up!”
Some realization-of-what’s-about-to-happen expletives follow — the firefighter offered an “explicit language” warning when he first shared this video. LoCO thinks you’ll be OK — before the giant plane drops its payload of billowing, red fire retardant just near the engine.
“Holy shit.” Watch below.
[UPDATE: Gah! Supervisors are no fun. For whatever reason, the video has been taken offline. You missed!]
