David and Jadon, rice cookin’ machines

If you are competent at clicking things and you’ve got a second, LoCO‘s going to direct you toward a contest on the Uncle Ben’s Rice website with local implications, oh boy. ‘Tis there that you’ll find a short cooking video featuring Eureka resident and junior rice chef Jadon Wickizer and his father David preparing Spanish rice.

The vote button looks like this. You can do it.

Here’s the pitch: If Jadon and David’s video can get more clicks than all the other less-qualified clips (we watched ‘em all and Jadon makes the competition look like amateurs), then Eureka’s Lafayette Elementary School will win a $30,000 cafeteria makeover (and the Wickizers also get a little something for themselves)!

Best part about this corporate contest? You don’t have to sign up for anything! LoCO can get behind that. More details below and/or click through to the video here

The Wickizer family of Eureka recently entered the Uncle Ben’s “Ben’s Beginners Cooking Contest,” a program to encourage children to make healthier meal choices by getting them interested in cooking at an early age.

The contest aims to empower parents to connect with their children one meal at a time and make cooking an enjoyable activity that brings families together.

Parents with children who are in kindergarten through eighth grade submitted a three-minute home video showing the family together in the kitchen cooking a rice-based dish and discussing their experience cooking together. The contest received hundreds of entries from families across the United States.

The Wickizer family is asking the community to vote for the video they submitted titled “Jadon’s Easy Spanish Rice.” Video votes are a measure to name the Top 25 finalists in the contest.

To watch and vote for the Wickizer family’s video, visit UncleBens.com and search for “Jadon” or “Easy Spanish Rice” by Nov. 3. If selected as a one of the five grand prize winners, the Wickizer family will receive $15,000 in cash and a $30,000 cafeteria makeover for Lafayette Elementary School in Eureka.
