From the California Highway Patrol:
On 08/16/2017, at approximately 1230 hours, a Stoney Doetch was driving a 1998 Toyota Tacoma south on Wood Ranch Rd. approximately one mile north of Camp 31 Rd. For reasons still under investigation, Doetch allowed the Toyota to travel off the east roadway edge of Wood Ranch Rd. and down a dirt embankment. While traveling down the embankment the Toyota overturned and collided with a tree. The Toyota came to rest suspended against a tree. As a result of the collision, Doetch was entrapped in the Toyota and sustained major injuries. Doetch was transported to Eel River Camp # 31 by City Ambulance of Eureka and then transported by Reach Air Ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Redding, CA.
Cal Fire, Redway Volunteer Fire, Briceland Volunteer Fire and Southern Humboldt Technical Rescue assisted with extricating Doetch from the Toyota.
This incident remains under investigation by the Garberville CHP Office and alcohol or drugs impairment does not appear to be a factor.
