Approximate location of tomorrow’s drill — down at the Chevron docks.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services (OES) has partnered with Chevron and local emergency response agencies to conduct a full-scale functional exercise in Eureka on Thursday, June 8. A law enforcement and fire agency presence may be observed in the vicinity of the Bayshore Mall during the morning, until approximately 11:30 AM.

Emergency exercises are an opportunity for local, state, and federal planning and response partners to collaboratively practice responding to a simulated incident scenario, in advance of a real emergency. In the event of a real emergency occurring during Thursday’s exercise, the appropriate agency will issue information to the media through normal public information channels.

The exercise scenario for this simulated response is a marine fuel spill. As would happen in a real emergency of this nature, the Humboldt County Emergency Operations Center and Joint Information Center will be activated at the county courthouse in support of the field response.
