From the County of Humboldt:

The County of Humboldt is pleased to announce Nick Wilczek as its new Library Director. Wilczek, formerly the branch manager for the Arcata Library, was appointed by the Board of Supervisors recently and will begin serving as the department director on Tuesday, May 8.

As Library Director Wilczek will lead the library in pursuing its mission of providing resources and opportunities to support lifelong learning, local heritage, and the cultural, recreational and informational needs of the community. The county currently operates 11 libraries and one bookmobile, with a yearly operating budget of approximately $4 million.

“This library has so much going for it – dedicated staff, supportive Friends groups, a strong Foundation, and an incredibly invested community,” said Wilczek, “It’s beyond exciting to lead the library into its next phase.  I love Humboldt County; there’s no community that I’d rather serve, and I can’t wait to get to work.”

Wilczek will be returning to Humboldt County from Portland, where he served as Director of Garden Home Community Library. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in English and a Master’s degree in Library Science, both from University of Kentucky. His professional focus has been on creating libraries with innovative programming and exceptional customer service. He believes that the role of the library is to build and strengthen its community.

“Our Board is happy to have Nick back in Humboldt County leading the Library,” said Ryan Sundberg, 5th District Supervisor and Chair of the Board. “Our libraries are jewels in our community where citizens can learn more about our culture and heritage, and access great services. Nick is going to bring an innovative spirit that will help the Library move in to the future.”
