The Eureka Mayor and most of the City Council members stopped by St. Joseph Hospital on Monday to thank the emergency room staff for all of their hard work by bringing them a meal.

“Everyone has a roll to play in this event, whether it’s the person who stays home like they’re supposed to, to the people who work at the grocery stores,” Eureka Mayor Susan Seaman said to the medical workers. “But, ultimately it’s a big deal because its life and death and this is where the real difference is made. Thank you for coming in when its hardest to do it and protecting all of us.”

The council’s kind gesture was a part of Feed the E.R — a volunteer campaign which emerged amid the COVID-19 pandemic to help support local emergency medical workers and local food vendors by gathering donations and purchasing meals and delivering them to emergency room staff.

The mask-clad council members personally delivered food from Cassaro’s Catering to St. Joe’s on Monday. The council members held signs with messages of love and appreciation for their local medical workers.

“Thank you for your courage and compassion and for your presence here,” Councilmember Leslie Castellano said to the St. Joe’s staff. “You’re hugely appreciated. People look up to you and the community supports you.”
