McKinleyville’s Kmart has succumbed to the pressures of capitalism and will be closing in the near future. A representative at the store confirmed its closing to the Outpost and said any additional information would have to be received from Kmart HQ, which is closed on the weekends.
No one at the store would confirm how many employees the closure will affect and, according to one employee, the store has been around since the mid-90s.

The writing has been on the wall for some time when it comes to the closing of the store. Back in February, the Outpost ran a story about Kmart’s impressive lawn chair display that received more than 60,000 upvotes on Reddit at the time of publication.
There have been nationwide liquidation sales for Kmart and Sears stores since they were acquired by Transformco back in February. Over the past 15 years, more than 3,500 Kmarts and Sears have closed resulting in about 250,000 job losses, according to USA Today.
