A design review committee is considering a proposal to build a new car wash on Broadway. The project includes a new building, parking spaces, and landscaping. The committee must ensure the project meets safety and aesthetic standards and has been reviewed by various city departments. The project is exempt from environmental assessment and is recommended for approval with conditions. Public input is being considered before a final decision is made.

Once upon a time, in the bustling city of Eureka, there was a charming property located at 2431 Broadway. The property owners, Mr. Abrahamsen and Ms. Pryor, decided that it was time for a change on their lot. They wanted to bring happiness and convenience to the community by constructing Happy’s Car Wash.
The Applicant, Rebecca Raymond of HFA-AE, Ltd, had a vision for a drive-through car wash that would not only provide a service to the residents but also enhance the aesthetic appeal of the area. The proposed development included a modern building with a drive-through tunnel washing area, an office, and parking spaces with cleaning amenities.
As the plans for Happy’s Car Wash started to take shape, the Design Review Committee had to ensure that the project would not be detrimental to public health, safety, or welfare. They carefully reviewed the design details, materials, landscaping, and safety features to make sure everything was in compliance with the city’s standards.
After much deliberation, the Committee approved Happy’s Car Wash with a resolution finding the project exempt from CEQA and conditionally approving it. The joyous news spread through the city, and everyone was excited about the prospect of a new, convenient car wash in their neighborhood.
And so, construction began on Happy’s Car Wash, with the sound of hammers and drills filling the air. The building rose up from the ground, showcasing a beautiful façade with high-quality materials and native landscaping. The community eagerly awaited the grand opening, knowing that Happy’s Car Wash would soon bring smiles to their faces.
And as the sun set on the day of the grand opening, Happy’s Car Wash welcomed its first customers with open arms. The sleek tunnel washing area gleamed under the bright lights, and the friendly staff was ready to provide top-notch service. Cars lined up to experience the convenience and care that Happy’s Car Wash had to offer.
And so, the story of Happy’s Car Wash became a beloved tale in the city of Eureka, where happiness and cleanliness reigned supreme. The end.

… or, as a right-wing radio talk show hosted by Merv "The Beast" Tarkington!

Welcome back, patriots and freedom fighters! You’re listening to Merv “The Beast” Tarkington, the voice of reason in a world gone mad. Today, we’re diving into the latest government overreach that’s threatening our beloved Costco store at 1006 W Wabash Avenue. That’s right, folks, buckle up because we’re talking about the Coastal Design Review AA-25-4, also known as the Costco Cooler Addition.
Now, I know what you’re thinking. What’s the big deal about a cooler addition, right? Well, let me tell you, my fellow Americans, this is just another example of bureaucratic red tape strangling the life out of our businesses. The project, proposed by Sam Sanchez on behalf of Costco Wholesale Corporation, aims to add a 3,116-square-foot dairy and produce cooler addition to the north-facing wall of the existing Costco store. Sounds harmless, right? Wrong.
This project has been caught in the crosshairs of the Design Review Committee, a group of unelected officials who believe they have the right to dictate every aspect of our lives. They claim the addition is necessary to house new refrigeration equipment, but I see right through their lies. This is a blatant overreach of power, my friends. Who are they to tell a private business how to operate and expand?
But it gets even worse. The committee is recommending conditional approval of the project, subjecting it to unnecessary restrictions and delays. And don’t even get me started on the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) exemption they’re throwing around like confetti. They claim the project is exempt under Class 1 Existing Facilities, but I smell a rat. This is just another excuse to control every aspect of our lives and businesses.
So, what can we do, you ask? It’s simple, my friends. We must stand up and fight back against this tyranny. We must demand that the Design Review Committee step back and let Costco proceed with their expansion without interference. We must protect our businesses and our freedoms from government overreach at every turn.
So, I urge you, my fellow patriots, to join me in standing up against the Coastal Design Review AA-25-4 and the oppressive forces behind it. Together, we can preserve the American dream and ensure the prosperity of businesses like Costco. This is Merv “The Beast” Tarkington, signing off until next time. Stay strong, stay vigilant, and never back down in the face of tyranny. God bless America.
