These animals are characterized by having pentaradial symmetry, being a part of the clade of deuterstomes, having a water vascular system, having a complete gut, a diffuse nervous system, and no excretory organs. • In this photos we can see the madroporite, the small cream colored circle near the middle of the animal. This is the organ that lets the water enter into the water vascular system. It then goes to the stone canal, ring canal radial canal, lateral canal, the ampulla, and finally it ends in the tube feet. It sure it interesting to see how different the results of evolution can be when comparing different animals! •

Sea cucmbers are in the class Holothuroidea. • This animal was a lifer for me and was a species that I had been hoping to see ever since I had begun tidepooling 3 summers ago (2 years). It sure is a strange animal! Notice the #Hermissenda #crassicornis #nudibranch just chillin on the back on the cucumber. I love tidepooling in HumCo! :) • I first found this creature on Thursday, 7/2/15. I went back out on 7/4/15 and saw it again in the same location. When I went back out on the 5th it was still there! I was able to share it with four other people on 7/5; I couldn't believe it had stayed there for so long! •
