Not only first across the Eel, but also first across the finish line on Ferndale’s Main Street is You’re a Meme One, Mr. Grinch!
LoCO spoke with captain Darren Droge about today’s water crossing, his home race in Colorado and where to drink beer now.
However, YaMOMG is not eligible to win this year’s Grand Champioship because he is not an ACE machine. This year’s champion will be decided afters judges scores are tallied — speed, art, pageantry and other considerations factor in. The winner will be announced at tonight’s winner’s banquet.

After the most restful night’s sleep of their lives, the racers can see the light at the end of the glory tunnel.
The sculptures are currently making their way back up Cannibal Island Road and on to Fernbridge where they will again enter the water, this time the mighty Eel River just north of the bridge.
The first across by a long shot was You’re a Meme One Mr. Grinch, while P-Awesome, Chain Mail and Sparky are preparing for submersion. Peddle, people!

The Road to Crab Park
At this point in the day, nearly half of the sculptures have crossed the Day Two finish line having successfully navigated this morning’s water crossing, the trip through the Palco Marsh, a trek down Highway 101 toward College of the Redwoods, up Loleta hill and, finally, out Cannibal Island Road to Crab Park.
Once at Crab Park all the racers will be given sleeping pills or something so that the snooze for the next 14 or so hours without having any fun tonight. Nothing happens at Crab Park. LoCO has been threatened enough times to come to realize this is the case. Zzzzz.

Sculptures Successfully Traverse the Bay
Most teams are Out of the Water and enjoying a quick lunch. KHUM reports that some of the more eager teams are already making Their Way Down the 101.
Out of the 39 sculptures that entered the race this year, only one has dropped out. We’ll keep you posted if anything changes. In the meantime, check out these cool photos from earlier today.
