“Humboldt is either your worst nightmare or your paradise.”
Regular Outpost readers are aware that we are suckers for pretty Humboldt footage. Anytime some filmmaker treks off into the redwoods, sends up a drone, and makes our home look majestic again it feels like a nice reminder as to why we all choose to live here. Humboldt is quite beautiful. Never forget.
This clip is kind of like those. Kind of. Behold, the trailer for William Head’s Savage Remote, below, contains bursts of some of the most beautiful drone shots of Humboldt we’ve seen. At the same time, it also contains a fair share of discussion of the local drug culture. Pretty stuff and gritty stuff.
In addition to being clearly solid behind a lens, Head is also a standup comedian who has performed in Humboldt numerous times over the past few years. With plenty of behind the Redwood Curtain yuk-time under his belt, Head set out to make a film about our weird, little small town comedy scene in all its various forms — from the numerous standup showcases, to the rise of Savage Henry Magazine, and drugs.
Anyway, because you are invested in how Humboldt is portrayed, you should probably watch the trailer. If the full version of Savage Remote is something you feel like you’d like to view (or protest) note that it premieres Friday, May 6 at the Arcata Theater Lounge.
