Local documentarian Ray Olson is back to teach us more about the Ten-Ninety-One, a World War II-era ship beached in Samoa.

In today’s episode of “Humboldt Outdoors,” Olson takes us on a tour of the lower deck of USS LCI(L)-1091 – affectionately known as Ten-Ninety One – and introduces us to the committed group of local veterans who are working to restore the historic vessel.

“This ship was awarded several battle stars for service in two wars,” Olson says. “During WWII it landed troops during the Battle of Okinawa. During the Korean War, it was retrofitted with a medical lab to help prevent the spread of wartime disease. What makes this story even more remarkable is a small but dedicated crew of military veterans who have been volunteering their time for over a decade to keep this historic ship from collapsing into a pile of rust and scrap metal.”
