FRIDAY LOWDOWN: There’s ‘Something Rotten’ in Arcata

‘Rotten’ actors

Look at you looking for things to do out of the house again! Good on ya, citizen. There’s no shortage of Friday night distractions in your Lowdown listings below, but since we have to recommend something… lessee here… how about some musical theatre? You used to love that (maybe)! Well, for the next couple weekends, students enrolled in Cal Poly Humboldt’s School of Dance, Music and Theatre will stage Something Rotten! up in the Van Duzer Theatre. What’s that, you ask? From the promotional material:

This musical comedy mash-up of 16th-century Shakespeare and 21st-century Broadway tells the story of brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom, two playwrights stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rock star Will Shakespeare. When a soothsayer foretells the next big thing in theater, the Bottom brothers set out to write the world’s very first musical.

That sounds like it could reasonably be fun, yeah? More details on Something Rotten! here or, if you’d rather not that, scroll your Lowdown below for less-musical fare.
