Fortuna resident Marcia “Marci” Kitchen, sentenced to eight years for running over and killing her daughter and another teenager while driving drunk, has been transferred to state prison.
Jail records show Kitchen, 41, left Humboldt County Correctional Facility at 1:09 a.m. Wednesday. She had been in jail since she turned herself in on Sept. 3 and pleaded guilty to all charges. Kitchen traveled with several other inmates released early Wednesday for transport. One was Kimberly Ann Felder, who was found not guilty by reason of insanity for a bizarre “exorcism” of her young daughter.
Felder is being evaluated for treatment. Kitchen, with credits for “good time,” will probably serve about four years for killing Kiya Kitchen and Faith Tsarnas, both 14, by running over them with her Jeep as they skateboarded on Eel River Drive.
Kitchen fought the charges for two years, but decided to plead guilty as her jury trial was approaching.
