The Patton Vacation Rental project at 2935 N Street, which is seeking approval for a vacation rental with no proprietor on-site, is being reviewed by the Planning Commission. The project has already gone through the application process and has received comments from neighbors expressing concerns about disruptions and parking shortages. However, the staff report has addressed these concerns and found the project to be consistent with the General Plan and Zoning Code. The project is also exempt from environmental assessments. A public hearing will be held to discuss and potentially approve the project.

… or, as a Bruce Springsteen song!

(Verse 1)
In the heart of Eureka, on N Street so fine
Claire Patton’s got a dream, gonna make it all mine
A vacation rental, a little piece of paradise
But the Planning Commission’s got us rolling the dice
(Chorus)
Oh, the Patton Vacation Rental, it’s a dream come true
But the neighbors are worried, about what we might do
Public hearing, they’re raising a fuss
But we’ll follow the rules, gotta gain their trust
(Verse 2)
Concerns about disruptions, parking shortages too
But we’ll keep it quiet, we’ll enforce the curfew
With an emergency contact, within 50 miles
We’ll make sure everything runs smooth as a dial
(Chorus)
Oh, the Patton Vacation Rental, a home away from home
But the critics are loud, won’t leave us alone
We’ll address their worries, one by one
Just give us a chance, we’ll show you how it’s done
(Bridge)
Less than 1.5% of the City’s housing stock
We’re not the only ones, just a small block
But we promise to be good neighbors, we’ll do what’s right
Let us show you our vision, in the clear daylight
(Chorus)
Oh, the Patton Vacation Rental, a place to escape
But the doubts are strong, can’t let them take shape
We’ll prove ourselves, with a resolution in hand
The Patton Vacation Rental, gonna make it grand
(Outro)
Don’t give up on us, we’re just getting started
The Patton Vacation Rental, a place for the lighthearted
Trust in us, we’ll make it shine
In the heart of Eureka, everything will be fine.

Sermon Title: Building a Strong Foundation
My dear brothers and sisters, today we are gathered here to reflect on the Leach Multi-Family Residential Development project at 1822 I Street. As we have heard, this project has faced challenges and obstacles in its path to approval. However, through perseverance and faith, the project has overcome these hurdles and is now on the path to success.
In the Bible, we are often reminded of the importance of building a strong foundation in all aspects of our lives. Just as this multi-family residential building is being constructed upon a solid foundation of concrete and steel, so too must we build our lives upon a foundation of faith, hope, and love.
The Planning Commission has made the wise decision to approve this project, recognizing its compliance with all applicable standards and regulations. They have seen the potential for this development to contribute positively to the community and provide much-needed housing options for families in our city.
As we reflect on this project and the journey it has taken to reach this point, let us also reflect on our own lives. Are we building a strong foundation in our faith? Are we living with integrity and compassion, following the example set forth by Jesus Christ?
Let us remember the words of Psalm 127:1 - “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.” As we move forward in our lives, let us seek the guidance and strength of the Lord to help us build a strong foundation that will withstand any challenges that come our way.
May we be inspired by the perseverance and faith of the Leach Multi-Family Residential Development project, and may we strive to build our lives upon a foundation of faith, hope, and love. Amen.

3. Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) and SB 9 Inland Zoning Code Update Location: Inland portion of the City Project: Text Amendment TA-25-2
The Planning Commission is recommending updates to the Inland Zoning Code to align with current State laws regarding accessory dwelling units (ADUs) and SB 9 regulations. These updates aim to simplify regulations, encourage affordable housing options, and increase housing supply in Eureka. The proposed changes include clarifying ADU regulations, allowing for more flexibility in ADU construction, and promoting urban lot split subdivisions. The City believes these updates will help address housing needs while maintaining consistency with the 2040 General Plan. The amendments are exempt from environmental review under CEQA and are in the public interest to support housing affordability and supply.

In the land of Eureka, a plan was in motion,
For an ADU update with great devotion.
The Planning Commission, with staff report in hand,
Proposed changes for all the inland land.
The City of Eureka, the applicant in sight,
Worked to make the zoning code just right.
With State laws and SB 9 to comply,
They aimed to simplify and clarify.
From ADU regulations to zoning districts clear,
The amendments brought a new frontier.
Encouraging housing for all to see,
In a way that’s affordable and key.
With public interest, health, and safety in mind,
The City sought solutions, patient and kind.
A resolution was passed with a motion so bright,
To recommend the City Council make things right.
So here’s to Eureka, in their planning quest,
May their ADU update be the very best.
For housing needs and community growth,
They’re paving the way, and that’s no joke!
