Pretty chilling reporting on the Brett Watson restraining order hearings from the T-S’s Jackson Guilfoil. According to Guilfoil, Arcata city attorney Nancy Diamond testified that she became scared of the former city councilmember after receiving a warning from Arcata police chief Brian Ahearn.

Excerpt:

“(Ahearn) said the most potential for violence was Mr. Watson shooting himself on the dais,” Diamond said.

She said Ahearn added that the council would have to go into active shooter protocol — run, hide and fight — if this happened. Diamond testified that she feared Watson targeting her and other council members before committing public suicide.

Potentially triggering news for local right-leaning readers of mainstream media comics pages. The Times-Standard announced Wednesday it would join scores of newspapers across the country by ceasing to run Dilbert, the ‘90s-era office politics strip that, believe it or not, is still in production!

The decision to stop running Dilbert comes after its creator, Scott Adams, made some remarks on his YouTube channel in which he referred to Black Americans as a “hate group” and suggested that white Americans should “get the hell away from Black people.”

Adams’ comments were made in response to a poll by a conservative organization that purported to show many African Americans do not think it’s acceptable to be white.

The Times-Standard posted the following statement on its site:

In the wake of controversial and divisive remarks by Dilbert artist Scott Adams, we will no longer carry the strip in our publications.

The Times-Standard believes that communities are strengthened by embracing diversity and striving for unity as opposed to divisiveness and provocation. With these values in mind, we cannot continue to publish Adams’ work for our audience.

Due to the timing of our production schedules, Dilbert will continue to appear in some editions, including this coming Sunday’s papers while the change is implemented.

Well, Cal Poly Humboldt has made it. A few days after the university’s idea to temporarily address its student housing woes with a giant barge made the Washington Post, the writers at Late Night with Stephen Colbert decided the item warranted a throwaway joke in the host’s recurring “Meanwhile” segment during Monday’s show.

LoCO has gone to the trouble of tracking down the brief yuk in question so you, our beloved readers, don’t feel like you’ve missed anything.

Behold: JOKE.

In a clear statement about Cal Poly Humboldt’s student housing situation, someone vandalized one of the university signs — located at the intersection of LK Wood Blvd and Sunset Ave — crossing out the word “Humboldt” and writing “Homeless” in its place with red spray paint.

The vandalism took place sometime on Wednesday night, following a large protest held on campus in response to the university’s recent announcement  that returning students will be ineligible for on-campus housing in the Fall 2023 semester.

When the Outpost drove past the sign this morning, a CPH maintenance employee was already in the process of cleaning up the graffiti. This was the only graffiti that we saw, but we’re not sure if it was the only sign that was spray painted in the night.
