Monday Lowdown: Grammy-Winner is Going to Hang Out at HSU All Week

Odds are you don’t hang around enough classical music composers — I know I don’t — which is why the Lowdown is thrilled to announce that HSU will be graced by the presence of renowned American note-placer and Grammy winner Libby Larsen during her week long residency. You want highlights:

  • Monday: A “Faculty Artist Series” concert at the Fulkerson Recital Hall will feature Larsen joined by HSU music faculty and players from the community.
  • Tuesday: HSU students will be granted a up close and musical masterclass with Larsen. Says HSU: “The public is invited to attend the masterclass, however advanced musical training will be necessary to appreciate the class.”
  • Friday: Larsen will give a noon “Meet the Composer” lecture, again at the Fulkerson Recital Hall.
  • Sunday: HSU student musicians present “The Music of Libby Larsen” in the Fulkerson Recital Hall, a concert featuring pieces spanning 30 years of Larsen’s career.

Additionally, Larsen will be on hand at the Arkley Center on both Friday and Saturday nights for the world premiere of her piece “Dancing Man Rhapsody” performed by the Eureka Symphony as part of their “Silver Season Opening.” —AG
