The City of Eureka is proposing to declare a property surplus in order to relocate their Corporation Yard to a new site. The current site is at risk of natural disasters and is no longer suitable for the city’s needs. The surplus process includes notifying entities interested in using the property for affordable housing or open space purposes before selling or leasing it. The project is not expected to have a significant impact on the environment and is consistent with the city’s goals and policies. A public hearing will be held to discuss the surplus of the property.

… or, as a Funkadelic song!

Verse 1:
City of Eureka, Corporation Yard surplus
Declaring the land, a move so bold and just
New location for the yard, a site above
Making way for progress, showing some love

Gotta make room for the Eureka Operations Complex
Emergency center, handling disasters, no flex
Out with the old, in with the new
Structures deteriorated, time for something true

Chorus:
Surplus the property, make the move
City of Eureka, in the groove
Planning Commission, staff report
Funkadelic vibes, gotta hold court

Verse 2:
Surplus Land Act, gotta follow the rules
Affordable housing, open space, no fools
60 days to respond, then 90 to negotiate
City has the power, to decide the fate

Zoning in the P District, open space allowed
Housing not ideal, but still proud
City Council’s discretion, in the end
Community’s best interest, they’ll defend

Chorus:
Surplus the property, make the move
City of Eureka, in the groove
Planning Commission, staff report
Funkadelic vibes, gotta hold court

Bridge:
Environment assessment, CEQA in play
No significant impact, on display
Categorical exemption, Common Sense rule
Future projects, will follow the duel

Chorus:
Surplus the property, make the move
City of Eureka, in the groove
Planning Commission, staff report
Funkadelic vibes, gotta hold court

Outro:
City of Eureka, Corporation Yard surplus
Making moves, no need to fuss
New beginnings, old buildings fade
Funkadelic vibes, the city’s parade.
